The Most Delectable Foods - That Increase Sperm Count

What you put into your body affects how smoothly it operates. In fact, sperm health is greatly influenced by the nutrients, or lack thereof, in your diet. One of these essential nutrients is the mineral zinc, which is the second most common mineral found in your body after iron.

Scientific studies have shown that zinc supplementation can increase sperm count in men, and potentially improve male fertility. The recommended daily intake of zinc is 11 to 13 milligrams. We've put together a list of the most delectable grub that is also high in zinc. But don't get too carried away - while one cheeseburger can give you your daily dose of Zinc, eating 5 cheeseburgers a day will counteract the health benefits.

How Does Zinc Increase Sperm Count?
All the cells in your body, including sperm cells, contain zinc. Zinc is needed for the formation and structure of DNA, proteins, and cell membrane of sperm. The recommended zinc intake for men is 11 to 13 milligrams per day.  Zinc is mainly found in animal based foods, such as beef, turkey, pork, dairy products and shellfish. In fact, you can get your daily zinc intake by eating just one medium oyster! The best plant based foods for zinc include nuts and legumes.

Our Favorite Foods - High in Zinc

Zinc Deficiency Dangers
Zinc deficiency can cause several symptoms besides low sperm count, including delayed sexual maturation, impaired wound healing, immunodeficiency, night blindness, behavioral disturbances, and skin rashes. To prevent zinc deficiency, you should avoid heavy alcohol and caffeine use since these can reduce the absorption of zinc. In addition, an unhealthy diet based on junk food is typically low in nutrients and can lead to zinc deficiency. If you have a low sperm count, you should ensure that you are getting enough essential nutrients, such as zinc, from your diet.
